Vienna

Hotspots

Every city has its own hotspots. Whether the sun is shining or it's raining cats and dogs, there are lots of activities awaiting you!

Schloss Schonbrunn

Schloss Schonbrunn

Schloss Schonbrunn is Austria's answer to Versailles and is the former palace of the famous Sisi. The palace was designed for the empress's grandfather and features a broad square at the front and a magnificent staircase on the garden side. Between 1745 and 1760 Nicolaus Pacassi extended the building and decorated the interior in elegant rococo style. This was followed by the theatre in 1766, the Gloriette (an open pavilion on the elevated terrace-shaped slope) in the period 1771-1777 and the Roman ruin in the park in 1778. Tip: take an audiotour, it's highly recommended. [Read more]

Kunsthistorisches Museum (Museum of Art History)

Kunsthistorisches Museum (Museum of Art History)

The Kunsthistorisches Museum occupies different buildings at the former palace. You'll find the almost complete collection of the Habsburg royal house here. The main highlights are the Italian, Dutch and Flemish masters from around the time of the Renaissance. Important works by Breughel the Elder, Rembrandt, Caravaggio and Raphael are exhibited. The other collections, like the Egyptian and Antique collection, are somewhat overshadowed by the paintings, but are nevertheless worth seeing. Those who have plenty of time and can't get enough of all the splendour, should buy a combiticket. It's valid for three months and gives access to all the buildings. [Read more]

The Danube Tower

The Danube Tower

The Danube Tower is Vienna's highest tower. It stands in Danube Park and is visible from every point in the city. There's a lift to whisk you to the top, from where there's a magnificent view of the city. Two (expensive) restaurants are located in the tower. With the panoramic view that unfolds before your eyes, especially at sunset, it's certainly worth it. What makes it all the more unique is the fact that the restaurant revolves! One further challenge remains for the real brave of heart. You can perform a bungee jump from three different heights: 150 m, 160 m and 170 m. [Read more]
