Paris

Transportation

You can explore a city in many different ways. Public transport will allow you to get around very quickly, but you can also choose some different and original ways to travel!

Cycling in Paris

Cycling in Paris

Paris has over 143 kilometres of cycle paths, so it's a waste not to use them. This company has mapped out various routes through the city, so rent a velo when the weather's nice and see three times more on your bike than you would during a day's walking. Cycling in Paris is less daunting than you think. Lots of bicycle lanes are provided, and if they're absent you're often allowed to use the bus lanes. Pick up a 'Paris a velo' from the Hotel de Ville (town hall). It contains a useful map of all the cycle paths and other practical information. You can rent bikes at the address below. More information is available on the website. [Read more]

Buses in Paris

Buses in Paris

Bus services are provided throughout Paris seven days a week from 05.30 a.m. until 01.00 a.m. In spite of this, it's not the city's most convenient form of transport. Roads are busy, buses are generally overcrowded and transfer points are not clearly indicated. The biggest advantage is that you get to see plenty en route. If you have a choice, take the metro. It's quicker and a lot more efficient. Tickets cost around EUR 2.50 per person and are available at all bus stations. For further information about public transport in Paris, click on the link below. Metro in Paris

Metro in Paris

The quickest and easiest way to get to your destination is by metro. Metro station entrances are indicated by an arch bearing a sign that reads 'Metropolitan'. Metro tickets can be used on the bus and vice versa. Tickets can be bought at the stations and at shops which display a 'tabac' sign in their windows.
