Madrid's City Bus Corporation operates buses on over 185 routes throughout the city. The bus's biggest competitor is the metro. The metro network is so extensive that the bus has little chance of winning. Madrilenos tend to use buses only at night, when the metro has stopped running. Night buses, better known as busos, stand at Plaza de la Cibeles from 00.00 and 06.00 a.m. Between midnight and 03.00 a.m. night buses depart every half hour. Thousands of taxis drive around Madrid and they're relatively cheap. The city's taxis are white with a red stripe on their side. It's possible to hail a taxi in the street or to go to one of the numerous taxi ranks. Make sure that the driver starts the meter when you get inside.
