Taberna Los Cabales
Taberna Los Cabales is a pleasant lively restaurant which offers a traditional selection of tapas. Lots of locals drop in here for a drink and a bite to eat. It's possible to do this at lunchtime but as things pick up at dinner time, it's wise to book. With its extensive wine list and mosaic covered walls, the Taberna treats you to a taste of old Madrid.

Cafe de Oriente
The restaurant is situated on Plaza de Oriente, opposite the Royal Palace and beside the Opera building. It's a great spot to enjoy a coffee or hot chocolate, and to observe the square and the people. In the summer you can do this from the pleasant terrace. It's hard to believe that the restaurant was built in 1983 because it looks genuinely old. With a couple of quick sums it's possible to order a cheap menu. The cuisine is, like the wine, a delight!
