You can explore a city in many different ways. Public transport will allow you to get around very quickly, but you can also choose some different and original ways to travel!
Transportation from the airport
Around London there are five airfields; Heathrow (the biggest), Gatwick, London City Airport, Luton and Stansted. They all offer a good connection to the city centre. If you land in Heathrow, the shortest way to London is by Heathrow Express Train. The subway, touring cars, buses and taxis are available too. So there are enough options to choose from. Do you arrive in Gatwick? Than the Gatwick Express is the fastest way to London. Another option is a bus or a taxi. At London City Airport you often find an entire row of black taxis waiting, which is the best option from this airport. The subway or DLR is the other available transport. The journey from Luton or Stansted to London, is best made by train, bus or taxi.

Buses in London
One of London's most familiar symbols is the red double-decker bus. There's no better way to explore London than by bus. The bus routes take you past all sorts of sights, you can also enjoy a sightseeing tour from the top of a double-decker. There are two types of bus stop, compulsory stops and request stops. Buses must always stop at compulsory stops, but only stop at request stops when asked to do so. Buses operate from early morning until late evening and there's also a night service. Buy a public transport card, it's valid for several days on both the bus and the tube.

Metro in London
The Underground or tube, as London's metro is known, is the quickest and easiest way of getting about the city. The service runs every five minutes. You can buy tickets at the Underground stations, from the ticket office or a vending machine. Warning: don't throw your ticket away. When you arrive at your destination you'll need it to leave the station. Buy a public transport card, it's valid for several days on both the tube and the bus.
