Transportation
You can explore a city in many different ways. Public transport will allow you to get around very quickly, but you can also choose some different and original ways to travel!
Taxi
Florence's official taxis are white and wait at official taxi ranks. Official taxi ranks are found near the station, on Piazza di Santa Maria Novella, Piazza di San Marco, Piazza delle Repubblica and the Via Pelicceria. Florence taxis are not a cheap way of getting around. You have to pay a surcharge for luggage that goes in the boot on Sundays and public holidays between 22.00 p.m. and 2.00 a.m. You also have to pay an additional surcharge to go to the airport. Apart from this, it's useful to know that when you order a taxi by telephone, the metre starts ticking immediately! It's cheapest to go to one of the taxi ranks.

These small streets can become very busy during the high season and you'll constantly be on the look out not to get in people's way. A good map is a must to help guide you through the maze of small streets.
