The end of the hottest months heralds the Florence marathon. The marathon is held in November and attracts over 6000 participants. It ranks as one of the world's top 20 marathons, and is one of the best marathons to take part in. The 42 kilometre route passes the most remarkable spots in the city and surroundings. The marathon starts at Piazzale Michelangelo and ends festively at Piazza Santa Croce. Participants from all over the world are welcome, however registrations close six months before the date. This year, the festival will be held in the heart of the Tuscan city for the 49th time. Documentaries will be screened at different squares around Florence, and these unique locations themselves give the festival an extra dimension.
