Budapest

Shopping

Are you a shopaholic? Then you'll really want to know where the best stores and the biggest shopping streets are. This is our selection of shops you shouldn't miss!

Central Market Hall

Central Market Hall

The Central Market Hall (Nagy Vasarcsarnok in Hungarian) is Budapest's biggest covered market. The market mainly sells provisions like fish, meat, vegetables, fruit, cheese etc. You'll find local produce as well, like foie gras, peppers in all shapes and sizes, and caviar. The hall was designed by Gustav Eiffel, who also designed the famous Eiffel Tower. You'll find tourist shops at the top of the hall where you can buy souvenirs. [Read more]

WestEnd City Centre

WestEnd City Centre

Indulge yourself completely at WestEnd City Centre. The shopping centre has three floors and sells practically everything under the sun. Besides having over 400 shops, it also has a cinema and various restaurants. Once you've finished shopping, you can relax and enjoy yourself up on the shopping centre's roof. There's a park with benches to sit on and a children's playground. It's a perfect spot to escape from the city bustle. The park has been open just as long as the shopping centre. [Read more]

Ecseri Piac

Ecseri Piac

Ecseri Piac, often called simply piac (market) is the biggest flea market in East Europe. Literally thousands of miscellaneous objects and ornaments fill the wooden tables that improvise as stalls. Don't be mistaken though, valuable treasures can still be found among the bric-a-brac. You'll be overwhelmed by the sheer numbers of overly cramped 'stalls' and the items they sell. You'll find everything from communist souvenirs to antique jewellery here (as long as you look carefully). Saturday is the nicest day to visit this market. [Read more]
