Brussels

Restaurants

You'll find a bunch of restaurants, cafes and “brasseries” in every city. Below is a selection of nice venues where you can enjoy local food and/or culinary delights.

Le Pain Quotidien

Le Pain Quotidien

Literally translated into English, Le Pain Quotidien means our daily bread. This bakery shop is a Belgian invention, which also has branches in Paris and New York, besides the ones in Brussels. The founder, Alain Coumont, learned to bake bread from his mother, while she made her own bread on Sundays. You can sit at a big wooden table for a delicious breakfast or lunch. Many claim they make the best bread in town, with a nice crunchy crust. When you get the chance to smell their freshly baked bread, you'll agree on this statement. [Read more]

Mokafé

Mokafé

In the beautiful Koningsgalerij you can find this fancy place called Mokafé. The coffee bar was opened in 1935 by the Charlier family and hasn't changed a lot since then. Here you can get a gorgeous cup of coffee or tea with a piece of cake, while watching the parading shoppers. The shop window displays a variety of the most delicious pies and other sweets. You can also get a small breakfast, salad, sandwich or croque-monsieur (French for a toasted ham and cheese sandwich). Don't forget to taste their home-made 'speculaasijs' (ice-cream with spiced biscuits) and their aperitif "pim's". Whether it's during summer or during winter, this place is popular to locals. Maison Antoine

Maison Antoine

They've been frying the tastiest chips here for over 50 years, a claim that must be true when you see the long queues that wait in front of the stand every day. The secret of these delicious fries apparently lies in the double frying. And, of course, no cone of fries is complete without a good dollop of mayonnaise. [Read more]
