Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium

{poi_name Napoloen Bonaparte created fourteen provincial museums by decree in 1801, one of which is the Museum of Painting and Sculpture in Brussels. He did this because Brussels was the then capital of the Dyle administrative district. Altogether there are over twenty thousand paintings, sculptures and drawings, which once again illustrate the continuity of the Belgian artistic tradition from the fifteenth century until the current day. Brueghel, Rubens, Van Dyck, Navez, Khnopff, Wouters, Ensor, Magritte, Delvaux, Broodthaers and many others are represented. Remarkable works by international artists like Hals, Rembrandt, Gauguin, Bonnard, Zadkine, Moore, Segal, Chagall and Miro also deserve a mention.
