Transportation

You can explore a city in many different ways. Public transport will allow you to get around very quickly, but you can also choose some different and original ways to travel!

Cycling in Berlin

Cycling in Berlin

Cycling is a great way to get around Berlin. You can rent bikes at various locations throughout the city. There's a rental company at Fahrrad station for example, which has six rental locations in Berlin and even rents a bike for 8 people. Buy a copy of 'Berlin fur Radfahrer', a map of Berlin especially for cyclists. It's available from all newspaper stands. The map indicates all the green cycling routes and seventy percent of the time you'll find you're cycling on a cycle path. The bike routes follow pedestrianized streets wherever possible. They also take you past Berlins's major sights. [Read more]

S-bahn: The Stadtschnellbahn is an electric train between the RegionalBahn's stop train and the Stadtbahn's local transport which connects the major cities and municipalities. The trains offer a regular service at fixed times.

Tram: The tram was Berlin's major form of transport until 1930. The majority of passengers subsequently moved to the U-bahn and the S-bahn.
West Berlin scrapped trams: old fashioned. East Berlin still has an extensive tram network: it's been modernized and sometimes extends as far as the west. [Read more]

The driver usually announces the next stop, although within the centre that's sometimes done electronically. During peak hours within the centre and at all times outside the centre, push the STOP button to alight at the next stop. [Read more]
