The Kurfurstendamm is Berlin's largest shopping boulevard. It lies in the former West Berlin. After WWII, a small unknown street was singled out to become Berlin's Champs-Elysees. The Ku-damm (as it's known locally) simply had to become more beautiful than the historic Unter den Linden. On the corner of the Kurfurstendamm stands the KaDeWe department store. Another of the street's eye-catching landmarks is the famous Kaiser-Wilhelm-Gedachtniskirch (Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church).
