Brandenburger Tor

Once upon a time the Brandenburg Gate was a simple toll gate on the west side of the city. These days it's a symbol of the reunification of Germany and sometimes even forms the backdrop for pop concerts and other festivities. The Brandenburg Gate was built in 1788. It's 26 metres high, 65.5 metres wide and 11 metres deep. The statue on top of the gate which depicts the goddess Victoria in a Greek chariot, is a reproduction. Aygptisches Museum Berlin

The Egyptian Museum is one of Berlin's most popular museums. Its most famous piece is the exceptionally well preserved bust of the Egyptian queen Nefertiti. The bust was made in 1350 BC and lay under the ground for over 3,000 years. You can also admire numerous sarcophagi, a mummy and an extensive collection of papyrus. Schloss Charlottenburg

Schloss Charlottenburg is the biggest palace in Berlin. It dates back to the days of the Prussian monarchs and was commissioned by Sophie Charlotte, the wife of King Frederick I of Prussia. The palace was badly damaged during WWI, as a result of which little of the original furniture remains. In addition to the palace's splendid rooms, there are also several magnificent paintings to admire. The palace happens to possess the most extensive collection of 18th century French art outside France. The sprawling and equally splendid baroque style palace park grounds also feature a royal mausoleum. [Read more]
