Carnival is widely celebrated in February or March every year. It's a traditional event that gets underway on Jueves Ladero (Fat Thursday),with a tortilla eating contest. Friday is a rest day, while on Saturday afternoon the Pimiento de Oro (Golden Pepper) award is presented to Barcelona's best entertainer. The icing on the cake is then a world famous procession, with lots and lots of confetti. This huge parade, Gran Rua de Carnaval, takes place at the coast. It's a spectacle that must be seen!
