Cycling in Amsterdam
The ideal way to get around Amsterdam is by bike. You can manoeuvre your way through the city without getting stuck in traffic. Aside from that, you get to see much more of Amsterdam when you're on a bike. Take care if you're not used to cycling in busy traffic because Amsterdam's traffic can be pretty chaotic. You can rent bikes from various companies in Amsterdam. Examples include Mac Bike, Yellow Bike, Rent a Bike Damstraat and Bike City. Organized bike tours through the city are also quite an experience!

Public transport
Amsterdam has a well organized public transport system. 16 tramlines, over 30 bus routes, 5 ferry connections and 4 metro lines form an extensive public transport
network with excellent connections, which runs at night as well. Trams are especially convenient if you want to travel around the centre and its immediate vicinty. Various ferries (free) also serve Amsterdam Noord. Good fun if you want to view Amsterdam from the water. Taxis in Amsterdam
Taxis can be found at taxi ranks throughout the entire city, but especially in the city centre near the Central Station and the Leidseplein. You can also order a taxi by telephone. The best known taxi cooperative is TCA, telephone +31 (0)20 7777 777. Another cheaper alternative it to order a Tuk-Tuk. These small motorized cabs were introduced to Amsterdam from Thailand and will deliver you quickly and cheaply (from euro 3.50) to your city destination, telephone 0900-99 333 99.
